Orbital Drift (Landscape from Pleats of Matter) attempts to inhabit a space of both particularity and universality. I am trying to position the viewer simultaneously up close and far away -
within and without a local frame of reference. The local frame of reference is a drapery study installed in my studio space. The study is composed of the same roll of canvas from which the painting has been made. I selected canvas for its liquid structure, which allows me the freedom to assemble and rearrange limitless compositions. The thick, transparent layering of the pigment in oil and cold wax similarly emphasizes both the materiality of the painting itself and the fluidity of my subject matter.
